DTM Lausitzring: Timo Scheider advances from grid position twelve to sixth place

Timo Scheider occupied position six for Audi thus scoring important points in the DTM race at the Lausitzring in front of 72,000 spectators (throughout the weekend). In total, four Audi A5 DTM cars finished in the top ten.

After starting from P12 on the grid, the two-time DTM Champion in his AUTO TEST Audi A5 DTM advanced to ninth place as early as on lap one. With a long first stint he improved to sixth place. After the second pit stop, Scheider fought a brief duel with Mattias Ekström for fifth place. Afterward, he concentrated on bringing the eight points for sixth place home.

“It was a good race. I had a really good start; there was a bit of commotion in turn one. Performance was good afterwards, I moved forward with a few overtaking maneuvers and a good strategy. In the end, I caught Mattias (Ekström) and that meant I couldn’t advance any more. We had a nice fight. I’m glad to be taking a few points home.”

DTM Hockenheim: No luck at the season opener

The season opener of the DTM at Hockenheim didn´t bring any luck for the two times champion Timo Scheider after qualified for 8th position. The Audi A5 DTM factory driver spun after being hit in the first lap and had to retire early only a few laps later due to another collision.

“I had a normal start, managed to run alongside Priaulx in turn one, who didn’t leave a lot of room for me, so I had to give in. In turn three, I had recovered a few positions, was almost around the corner when I felt an impact and was turned around. On the first lap that was very frustrating. After running as the last car in the field I managed to advance to 14th place. Then I overtook Roberto Mehri under braking and he hit my car. After that the car was so heavily damaged that it made no more sense to keep on driving.”

Timo Scheider wins “Battle of Champions”

Dream weekend for Timo Scheider: the two-time DTM Champion won the “Battle of Champions”, which ran through the streets of the holiday resort Saalbach Hinterglemm, astride a snowmobile.

Ice king: Timo Scheider felt completely at home during the Snow Mobile in Saalbach Hinterglemm and enjoyed the snowmobile race through the Austrian ski resort’s town center. “Although every muscle hurt a day later, this combination of fun and victory was a fantastic way to end the season,” said the Audi factory driver after winning with his “Goaßstall Racing Team”. Scheider claimed pole position for the team and competed against prominent fellow racers like Nick Heidfeld and Kimi Räikkönen in Saturday’s race staged in front of almost 25,000 spectators.

Bye, bye season 2011 – welcome 2012

With a seventh place at the race in Hockenheim and fourth position in the championship Timo Scheider said bye, bye to this years season in the German Touring Car Championship DTM. The two times champion is looking forward testing and racing the new Audi A5 DTM car, that will be used in 2012.

Timo Scheider (AUTO TEST Audi A4 DTM), 7th place ”I had a very good start and almost gained two positions. I’d have had to attack Mike (Rockenfeller) harder to move forward but with respect to the team championship I chose not to. During the first first stint Mike was relatively slow. The opposite was true for me: I was quick in the beginning and then a bit slower. I’d have wished for that to have been a bit different at the finale. But this picture fits the whole season, which is over now.”

Besides the race action in Hockenheim Timo Scheider fulfilled a children´s dream as well: In support of the “Kindertraum” (“Children’s Dream”) campaign Timo Scheider and Audi helped make a child’s dearest wish come true at the DTM finale at Hockenheim. 13-year-old André Keller who sits in a wheel chair and loves motorsport got to know a very personal side of the two-time DTM Champion. In addition, Scheider welcomed six children suffering from cancer who were visiting the Audi Sport Team Abt Sportsline garage at Hockenheim as part of an activity held by the “Sternschnuppe” (“Shooting Star”) initiative.

Triumph at Valencia: With a 1-2-3-4-5-6 result and an early title win Audi managed to crown its 2011 DTM season. Timo Scheider started from seventh position, drove the fastest lap and finished the penultimate race of the year on fourth position, behind his Audi mate and new DTM champion Martin Tomczyk.

“I had a good race which began with a good start. I was immediately able to overtake two cars. The performance was good. Together with the team I decided to stay out for a very long time for the first stint. I was even surprised myself that it worked out so well. Then we quickly followed with the second stop to give Martin a little help and to stay in front of the competition. That was the right decision and we finished in fourth place. The fastest race lap shows what was possible. But at Audi today was clearly about the championship. I happily filled this role.”
